The Life and Legacy of Rumi
Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī
Born in the city of Balkh, Rumi’s early life was shaped by the rich cultural and intellectual milieu of the Khwarazmian Empire. His family fled to avoid the Mongol invasions, eventually settling in Konya, where Rumi’s spiritual journey flourished. Under the guidance of his mentor Shams of Tabriz, Rumi transformed into a profound spiritual teacher and poet, whose works reflect the mysticism and philosophical depth of the era.
